I don’t have a lot of experience personally in sound other than basic tasks eg. sending microphone through speakers and playing music. However I have been in burnside tech crew since year 9 meaning I have picked up on a few things but never really tried them out.
During my time in tech crew I have been involved in various shows including the 2014 junior production and other smaller shows in the aurora center. During those shows I took up various roles such as stage manager, lighting director and follow spotting.
I chose Music Technology because it was a field I was always interested in but never really got into, I was always watching other people do it and wished that I could as well.
I hope that after finishing Music Technology that I will be able to mix and record sound from either a band or devices such as midi.
Topic Introduction
This year in music tech and in this research document I covered such topics as the history of recording technologies, the different types of recording and sound capture devices, Midi devices and their applications and the different types of sound and audio processing techniques. These are split into 4 separate sub-questions respectively. The first sub-question covers a timeline of the different recording mediums through the ages, how those mediums are recorded to and play back sound and the pros and cons between them. The second sub-question covers three different sound capturing devices, condenser microphones, dynamic microphones and a DI. The parts are listed and their functions explained and finally a table including when to use what. Sub-question 3 covers the history of midi, the application of midi in a DAW and how midi devices interact and how they work. Sub-question 4 covers 4 different audio processing techniques, the different parameters they have and an example of each using my recording project as an example.
